11 Picks for NFL Playoffs Week 3, Eagles at Cardinals
Published Friday, January 16, 2009 at 05:00:00 AM
Somehow, the NFC Championship Game is between the Philadelphia Eagles and Arizona Cardinals. I guess it makes sense in today's NFL, where nothing ever makes sense and predictions are impossible.
The line is Philadelphia, on the road, -4, but we're all just going to pick the game straight up.

Accuscore. (8-11 on the season) After all of its simulations, Accuscore sees the Eagles winning, 55 percent to 44 percent. I think the fact that this computer simulation method is guaranteed to finish my season-long experiment here with a sub-.500 record shows just how insanely unpredictable the NFL has become.
Accuscore sees the Eagles taking it.
Either that or I'm doing the traditional sportswriter thing and freaking out over a ridiculously small sample size. Come on! Reactionary, inflammatory sports columns over mall sample sizes are the only thing keeping the newspaper business alive!- Former NFL star Eric Allen. (7-12) His pick isn't posted yet but I'd be willing to bet at least 20 large that he's picking the Eagles. He loves favored teams like Bernie Madoff loves the bail. Topical!
Update: He did in fact pick the Eagles. - Random number generator. (5-14) I use Random.org's coin flipper, heads is home team, tails is away. This week it flipped tails, so it's going with the Eagles.
- Homeless guy outside my office. (8-11) He's going with the Eagles. I told him that it seems like everyone's going with the Eagles. He told me that's because he knows the people.
Battle of the mascots. (12-7) You've got a big, killer bird against a small, pretty, primping bird. If they had a midair fight, it would be a bloodbath. Eagles dominate.
An eagle wins a Top Gun fight against a cardinal with ease.- Adam, the early '90s fan. (11-8) "Um, come on. Randall Cunningham could beat the Phoenix Cardinals even if he didn't have an offensive line in front of him. Eagles by 42."
- Fatter offensive line. (11-8) The Arizona O-line adds up to 1,578 total pounds. Which isn't bad. But Philly may just have the heaviest O-line in the NFL, with a total combined weight of 1,666 pounds. The pick is the Eagles.
- A model who may or may not know football. (12-7) Karmen's going with the Eagles because her "dad is from Philly."
- Just picking the home team. (8-11) Hey, the Cardinals finally get one!
- "Sports Illustrated" legend Peter King. (12-7) King is going with the Eagles, although he thinks it's going to be close, 24 to 19.
- My pick. (8-11) I'm already out of contention. The NFL is insane. Last week everyone on the planet picked the Panthers to beat the Cardinals... and the Cardinals destroyed them. So I'm going to go against everyone else on my panel and say Arizona is headed to the Super Bowl (and Kurt Warner's headed to the Hall of Fame). I'm going Cardinals.
