11 Best Hand Gestures of the Bush Presidency
Published Friday, November 14, 2008 at 12:01:00 AM

Yesterday, there was a huge eruption in the immature corners of the blog world (corners which I both visit and contribute to) about a picture of President Bush posing with Arizona State's national championship track team. In the photo he, along with the team members, are making ASU's signature hand gesture.

Which, unfortunately for him, also happens to be a hugely popular raunchy gesture better known as the shocker.

That inspired this list: The 11 best hand gestures President George W. Bush has made during these long, long eight years. We'll make the new shocker number one, and go from there...
  1. The shocker. Just because he's the lame duck doesn't mean his reign of blunders is over. We've got him for about two more months, America!

  2. Hook 'em horns (and go Satan!) In case you haven't heard, Bush is from Texas. Here, he makes the famous Texas Longhorns "hook 'em horns" gesture. To the average non-Texan, though, this is Bush saluting Satan (or, at the very least, saluting Spinal Tap).

  3. Bit rude. Back when he was just a governor. I'd venture a guess that this picture has been captioned "What Bush really thinks of the American people" enough times to qualify for a "Guinness" world record.

  4. Is a Nazi reference too easy? Yeah, probably too easy. Still have to include it, though.

  5. Rock/Paper/Scissors. I put this little montage together. I get the feeling like Bush is one of those people who plays rock, paper, scissors and has a big debate about whether it's "shoot on scissors" or "rock, paper, scissors, shoot"... and then forgets what was agreed upon and just shoots on scissors anyway. And he ALWAYS goes rock. Always.

  6. Evolution. This photo invalidates most of the science classrooms in Kansas.

  7. The G8 masseur. In 2006, shortly before the G8 summit, Bush visited with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. During the meeting, he decided she looked tense, so he went behind her to give her a surprise massage. She freaked out.

  8. Everything's gonna be OK. Photos like this almost make me feel bad. I mean, if you're getting photographed constantly for a decade, at some point, a few photographs are going to catch you making absolutely idiotic faces. Even if you swear everything's going to be OK.

  9. Peace. All he ever wanted was peace. And what's the best way to get peace? Starting a shitload of wars.

  10. Explaining the insecurity? This may be more insight into the First Wang than any of us really wanted.

  11. Mission Accomplished! Thumbs up! We did it! We are so totally awesome!
